Winner of several national and international competitions and scholarships, finalist of the 2008 Leipzig Bach Competition, 3rd prize winner of the 4th International Early Music Soloist Competition Schärding/Brunnenthal 2010. She regularly makes CD and radio recordings, performs in solo and chamber music competitions and teaches cello courses, mainly in the field of baroque music and its period performance.

Piroska Baranyay graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music as a student of Csaba Onczay, then continued her studies at the University's doctoral program, where she received her DLA degree summa cum laude in 2010. She studied for 12 years with Ferenc Rados and attended several master courses. In 2006, she was awarded an Erasmus scholarship to Lübeck, where she studied with Professor Troels Svane. During her years at the Music Academy, she also began to study baroque music intensively. With the support of an Eötvös scholarship, she studied baroque cello at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Phoebe Carrai and Markus Möllenbeck from 2007-2011, and then studied baroque at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Jonathan Manson in 2010. She studied viola da gamba with him and Irene Klein.

Piroska has won numerous national and international competitions and was a finalist in the 2008 Leipzig Bach Competition. In 2009, she was awarded a German State Scholarship as winner of the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb with the Hofkapelle Schloss Seehaus chamber ensemble. In September 2010, she was the only cellist to win 3rd prize at the 4th International Early Music Soloist Competition in Schärding/Brunnenthal, Austria. She was principal cellist of the Danubia Symphony Orchestra for 10 years from her university studies and was invited to play continuo cello in the most prestigious ensembles specialising in historical performance during her years in Berlin and London, She has performed at renowned festivals all over the world (English Baroque Soloists, Arcangelo, Akademie für Alte Musik, The English Concert, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Gabrieli Consort&Players, Dunedin Consort, Haydn Philharmonie, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra). Principal cellist of conductors such as John Eliot Gardiner, Trevor Pinnock, William Christie, Enrico Onofri, René Jacobs, Ton Koopman, Laurence Cummings, Nicholas McGegan, Jonathan Cohen, John Butt, Paul McCreesh, Harry Bicket, Andreas Staier, Marc Minkowski. She has been solo cellist with the Orfeo Orchestra (György Vashegyi), Arcangelo (Jonathan Cohen), Haydn Philharmonie (Nicolas Altstedt, Enrico Onofri), with whom she has recorded numerous CDs.

Chamber music is an important part of her musical activity, and she regularly performs at home and abroad in various ensembles, mainly early music. She is also a frequent participant in concerts of the Hungarian Radio and a contributor to several chamber music CDs. Among her chamber music partners are distinguished musicians such as Enrico Onofri, Andreas Scholl, Kris Bezuidenhout, Nicolas Altstaedt, Iestyn Davies, Cecilia Bernardini, Kati Debretzeni, Monica Huggett, Mitzi Meyerson, Raphael Alpermann, Ditta Rohmann, László Paulik, Christoph Huntgeburth. From 2014 to 2017 she was cello teacher at the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music, and from autumn 2018 she has been teaching baroque cello at the Liszt Academy of Music. She gives master classes in Germany and at home.
